Scandinavian commercial expo celebrates a return to form
Following a notably quiet event in 2017, the biennial Nor-Shipping exhibition saw an impressive turnaround this year with a 34% increase in participation and exhibitors from 846 of the world’s leading maritime companies in attendance.
Members of the PR team were in Lillestrøm, near Oslo for the event, supporting clients and enabling meetings with journalists to provide updates on industry challenges and product developments.
Sustainability is a topic on everyone’s lips in the shipping industry and more so than ever at this Scandinavian event. We are proud to have several Norwegian clients developing technologies that focus on or contribute to reducing environmental impact. They have always been at the top of their game, delivering transformative and disruptive solutions as the maritime industry evolves, while Scandinavian ship operators are open to change, particularly if it allows savings to be made while also reducing CO2 or sulphur.
However, despite its Scandinavian roots, Nor-Shipping attracts a global audience, with strong attendance from Asia, Europe and North America. It is a very international show, we would class it as this year’s biggest, best-attended and most interesting wider industry show for commercial and offshore. It’s the key date on the calendar.
Clients at Nor-Shipping this year included KONGSBERG, which was launching its new data infrastructure service, Vessel Insight. Making smart shipping more accessible for more owners, Vessel Insight enables customers to cost efficiently capture and aggregate quality data from their assets and securely transfer them to the cloud. By doing so, Vessel Insight addresses the need of a wider user-base and helps the maritime industry be more sustainable both in economic and environmental terms.
KONGSBERG was also delighted to see that out of the 20 ships nominated for the Nor-Shipping Next Generation Ship Award, 13 used its products. And the following week, Kongsberg went on to win an Innovation Award for its GeoPulse USV at the European Commercial Marine Awards which took place at Seawork 2019 in Southampton
Other Saltwater clients supported at Nor-Shipping included Hatteland Display, Intellian and Marlink. Intellian was showing its new v100NX, 1m Ku- to Ka-band convertible maritime VSAT terminal while Marlink highlighted the importance of IT compliance within the industry and the need for a strong IT foundation to be well prepared for further digitalisation and future security regulations.
