The Maritime Industry (Re)connects at SMM Hamburg

Following a pandemic-induced break from meeting in 2020, the maritime world once again gathered in central Hamburg from 6 – 9th September at SMM Hamburg. Across 90,000 sqm over 2,000 exhibitors showcased their products and services, introduced innovations, shared best practices and discussed hot topics with more than 30,000 visitors from across 100 nations.
Key topics and challenges discussed included decarbonisation, offshore technology, maritime security and digitalisation, and a number of start-ups pitched their innovate products and solutions.
A Saltwater Stone team was on site at SMM to support clients communicate their latest news. Kongsberg Maritime was awarded the first ever type approval covering of EPL/ShaPoLi (engine power limitation/shaft power limitation) by classification society DNV. Kongsberg Digital signed an MoU with Shell Marine to accelerate decarbonisation initiatives.
Ocean Signal Limited launched its latest and most technologically advanced safety beacons, and ACR Electronics, Inc. launched its advanced AIS EPIRB.
A kick off meeting was held with Inmarsat in preparation for their sponsorship activities around The Ocean Race, whilst their SMM presence focussed on their satellite communication solutions for the commercial market.
Armach Robotics, Inc. was present at the exhibition to further discussions with early adopters of their in-water hull cleaning service, and Karl Lander, Director, Regulatory Compliance and Outreach, was interviewed for Maritime Reporter and Engineering News.
It was a busy week for exhibitors and visitors alike, and we look forward to doing it all again at the next SMM 3 – 6th September 2024.
