Out and about at international spring shows

Returning to the office after a busy spell of spring shows, Izzi Birchall talks about the team’s work supporting clients at worldwide events.

Attending international trade exhibitions and boat shows is a vital part of our work at Saltwater Stone and this year seems to have been busier than ever so far. The spring season kicked off with Ocean Business in Southampton, followed by Palma Superyacht Show and MYBA Charter Show in Barcelona. This may give the impression our focus has been centred on the leisure sector, but the balance will be redressed in June as we are preparing to support our commercial clients at Nor-Shipping and Seawork. Of course, not forgetting our attendance at the Ocean Business subsea expo in April too.

In my eyes, the main thing that sets Saltwater Stone apart is our dedication to being on the ground at major events in the commercial, offshore, leisure and superyacht sectors. Supporting our clients is our number one priority, but maritime events are also an ideal opportunity to work closely with editors and journalists as well as meeting advertising account managers and our clients’ own customers and suppliers.

At Ocean Business, we met clients and members of the media and, more specifically, co-ordinated press 1-2-1s and video interviews. At Palma and MYBA Barcelona I supported one of our clients with two captain-focused events around cyber and connectivity onboard, one aimed at the crew of Palma and the other at the charter crew of MYBA in Barcelona. Our client was also helped by their PR Account Manager, Jules Riegal, who facilitated press 1-2-1s.
Next up on the Saltwater Stone calendar is Nor-Shipping, Oslo, (4-7th June), closely followed by Seawork (11-13th June), in Southampton. Members of the PR team will be representing us in Norway, while the whole team will be in attendance over the three-day period at Seawork.

Not only do we sponsor the Seawork press office, Saltwater Stone is also responsible for organising and running the European Commercial Marine Awards, held in conjunction with the show. Our work involves sitting in on the judge’s deliberation time to collate comments on the winners, working with the presenters to write scripts and create the awards, liaising with the AV and catering teams and generally ensuring everything runs smoothly on the night.

The Saltwater Stone team also puts together the presentation to run alongside the winners’ announcements and our Non-Executive Director Clive Bartlett will be joining Maritime Journal editor Jake Frith to host the awards on behalf of Mercator Media.
