Cox Powertrain is the developer and manufacturer of the first ever high-powered diesel outboard. Starting out in Formula-1 racing with backing from a solid base of private institutional investors, Cox Powertrain has implemented a long-term programme of ground-breaking product developments supported by a world leading customer service programme.
In 2016-2018 Saltwater Stone was appointed by Cox Powertrain to manage the global communications, to support the launch of the CXO300 diesel outboard engine in the commercial, defence, recreational and superyacht markets. Having already worked on similar brand awareness and product launch campaigns in the marine industry, Saltwater Stone was in a prime position to manage the CXO300 launch. Following successful strategy consultation and impressed by Saltwater’s work, Cox increased the brief to include a full range of creative design services.
Saltwater Stone created a solid PR and communications strategy and programme, built upon a set of clearly defined messages for Cox Powertrain’s audiences in different sectors. The programme encompassed a global media relations campaign, drawing upon Saltwater Stone’s strong relationships with leading maritime, defence and superyacht media. Saltwater’s design studio created a range of marketing material including the development of new advertising and packaging designs and a total re-design of the company exhibition stands. Attendance at key events was in the strategy, to position Cox Powertrain as thought leaders in their industry in the build-up to the CXO300 launch.

Saltwater Stone developed key messaging concepts executed through many channels including print and digital advertising and secured the delivery of media coverage in key industry titles including Boating Magazine, Yachtsandyachting.com and Powerboatworld.com. Timed in preparation for the physical introduction of the outboard at Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, one of the largest attended events in the world, Saltwater also organised a press event, resulting in additional global media coverage.
Saltwater Stone helped Cox Powertrain secure a network of 50 distributors worldwide, prior to the start of the production of the COX300.
